Our
Recommendations

We want you to have fun while you’re here! There’s plenty to do around town, but if you’re looking for recs, we’ve got ‘em. Poke around our neighborhood in Montavilla (short for “Mount Tabor Village”) or drive down Burnside (Portland’s main drag) to find some of the best gems our city has to offer.

Montavilla

  • Hungry Heart makes a mean breakfast sandwich, whether on a croissant or their signature bialys. Plus, their pastry selection is next-level.

  • This enormous park is a short walk from our house, and the place where we took our engagement photos!

There are a few routes to take through Tabor. But if you want a challenge, take the stairs on the SE Yamhill/SE 69th Entrance. It’s 293 steps to the summit!

  • We’re on first name basis with most of the proprietors at The Yard. It has options for everyone, whether you’re craving Indian, Sushi, Gyros, or Burgers. Grab a beer or cider while you wait & even play a round of cornhole if it’s nice out.

  • Board Bard Games is a great new addition to our neighborhood. They have a wide inventory of games, cards, & accessories (their selection of custom dice selection is incredible) — you can also rent a board game for the day, and take it to the other bars on the block.

  • Named for Bangkok’s Chinatown, Yaowarat is the latest Thai-fusion brain child from Akkapong “Earl” Ninsom (the mind behind Portland favorites PaaDee & Eem).

  • Though we’re no longer neighbors, Blank Slate remains Meg & Jyss’ favorite neighborhood spot to hang out and plan events. Kierra just knows how to make a cocktail!

Portland

  • We love Screen Door for their incredible food & excellent service. Expect at least an hour wait at both locations. The praline bacon is worth it, we promise.

  • There are a few spots to soak in Portland (Kennedy School among them!) But with its boujie spa experience & pool with a view, Knot Springs takes the cake.

  • Phil works in the heart of the Pearl, so he’s a downtown aficionado. His favorite lunch spot is Oven & Shaker for wood fired pizza & a pint. The smells are amazing, and the oven was imported from Italy brick-by-brick.

  • An entire city-block full of books, Powell’s is one of our all-time favorite date spots. Meg prefers the Blue Room, while Phil hangs out next door in the Gold Room. But we both love the Rare Book Room on the 3rd floor.

  • Perhaps our favorite Italian restaurant in Portland, Luce is a small, no-frills & no-reservations pasta shop on Burnside. The pasta is made in-house, and the wine list will knock your socks off.

  • Back in our 20s, we’d shut it down at Triple Nickel & Sugar Hill — though, back when we partied there, it was called Circa 33. (See if you can find the speakeasy entrance!)

The Engagement Loop

If you love wine as much as we do, consider visiting Domaine Serene — Phil proposed in a garden behind the Monogram Room!

After the proposal, we got dinner at Cabezon.

Blackbird Wine Shop on Fremont Street hosted our Engagement Party. Andy has a great selection of wines to choose from!

Other Activities

  • Hike Multnomah Falls

  • Visit Sauvie's Island Pumpkin Patch

  • Party on 21st Street

  • Golf at Eastmoreland

Have Fun!
